Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has been a guest of the Julidans festival many times before - think of performances like Sutra (with Chinese Shaolin monks), Dunas (with fado-star María Pagés) or his ode to Japan, TeZukA.

Collaboration with (eastern) masters, from another world and another branch of dance, is one of the trademarks of the Belgian-Moroccan choreographer- himself proclaimed twice as 'Choreographer of the year' by the influential dance magazine Tanz. It's also reflected in the name of his company, Eastman.

Cherkaoui's new performance genesis is a collaboration with the admired Chinese choreographer and dancer Yabin Wang. She leads her own dance company and in her own country is a well-known actress in popular tv-series. The international public knows her from the phenomenal dance scene in the film House of the Flying Daggers.

In genesis the makers dig deep to find the origin of everything. The lab-like set and the dancer's medical masks point to the place where for most people everything begins: the hospital. And we often die there, too. Genesis exposes the journey and the human questions between those two milestones of living and dying.
