The Turkartoon exhibition was curated by Inktpot Foundation as part of the celebration of 400 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Turkey. It opened in April 2012 in Utrecht city hall and then traveled throughout the Netherlands.

The Turkartoon exhibition is expanded with 34 works from the period May-July of the Gezi Protest movement. Gezi Protest started as a protest against the demolition of a city park but it grew out to a national wide protest against the present government and its policies.  Humor was often used as a ‘weapon’ during the protest. In Turkey, illustrators have always played an important role. Their magazine, with names like Leman, Penguen and Uykusuz, are in fact oases of free speech in an increasingly government controlled media landscape.
