Hanggai Touring The Netherlands
杭盖乐队荷兰巡演
The Chinese-Mongolian band Hanggai introduced their characteristic throat singing to a wide audience. With great success they combine ancient old tradition with genuine rock ‘n roll and played on all the leading European festivals over the last few years. From world music festivals as Womad to the heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air, to Holland’s own Lowlands. Wherever they perform, Hanggai leaves quite a mark on the audience.
In 2012 the band released their second album called ‘He who travels far’. This record was recorded in Beijing and produced by JB Meijers (from the famous Dutch band De Dijk) and Ken Stringfellow (Neil Young, R.E.M.). De reviews were extremely positive:
“Banjo twanging fun from Beijing's Mongolian Hillbillies....sounds like the Pogues with a sprinkle of Chinese opera.” -- Songlines
“One of the most rousing and inventive folk-rock albums of the year comes from the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, via Beijing...(Hanggai) is Asian crossover music at its best.” -- The Guardian
Last month the band just finished the recordings for the third album. Again in Beijing ánd with JB Meijers as a producer. A first preview will be given during the upcoming concerts in Holland.
