Yang Fudong, one of China’s leading contemporary artists, combines Chinese traditional values with influences from Western film and video culture. In Seven Intellectuals in Bamboo Forest, he uses encounters between seven young city dwellers to represent the complexity of modern China: from the economic hysteria to the philosophy of ancient dynasties.

Dr. Katie Hill, specialist in contemporary Chinese art, is giving a lecture on Yang Fudong in the EYE, in which she dilates upon his series Seven Intellectuals in Bamboo Forest. Dr. Katie Hill has fifteen years of experience in the field of contemporary Chinese art and is a lecturer at the Sotheby's Art Institute. She worked closely with a number of contemporary artists from China, including Yang Fudong and Ai Weiwei, as a writer and curator. The lecture is in English.
