Resistance Or Rituals: Performing Arts and Social Change
Frie Leysen will be receiving 2014’s Erasmus Prize because she’s a fearless champion of the performing arts and an innovator in international theater.
Leysen often discovers unknown theatre-makers and takes them under her wing. Not just out of creative curiosity, but driven by a strong desire to bring this new work to a wider audience. Leysen is also continuously searching for new generations of artists and new forms of theatre, and gives non-western theatre a stage in Europe.
On 9 November, we will look at the idea of the performing arts as a reflection of society, through the eyes of Frie Leysen and her highly regarded group of artists and theater-makers.
Programme
A key note speech by theatre director Peter Sellars (winner Erasmus Prize, 1998) is followed by an interview and group discussion with festival director Frie Leysen, conservatorium director Paulo Zuben (Brazil), theatre director Seong Hee Kim (South Korea) and theatre director Amir Reza Koohestani (Iran).
The moderator is Neil Wallace (De Doelen).
The Amsterdam Leerorkest is performing together with musicians from the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
