The Brasil Festival Amsterdam officially kicks off with a Latin American Saturday Matinee in the Concertgebouw.

Darius Milhaud was the secretary of diplomate Paul Claudel when the latter worked in Rio de Janeiro. The folk song Le Boeuf sur le toit became the basis of the eponymous ballet. And the Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos wrote his piano work Rudepoema for his friend Arthur Rubinstein. Richard Rijnvos orchestrated this work commissioned by the Saturday Matinee (ZaterdagMatinee).
