Another international tour for Theater RAST in 2013

Eldersland, directed by Şaban Ol, is the Dutch contribution to Europe Now, an international theatre network for stories about the “new Europe”.

Following the international success of Hamlet, Hebûn an nebûn in 2012, Theater RAST will be setting out on another international tour in 2013. This time director and artistic director Şaban Ol is supplying the Dutch contribution to the international network Europe Now with his latest performance Elsewhere Land. Elsewhere Land, about a son who is confronted with his parents’ traditions, his own identity and his ideals, will premiere at Podium Mozaïek (Amsterdam) on 28 February. In March the show will travel to Istanbul, London and Berlin, after which there will be a Dutch tour in April and May (to Arnhem, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Amsterdam).

Theater RAST’s Elsewhere Land will not only be presented in the Netherlands but also in Istanbul, London and Berlin.

Elsewhere Land – not a fairy tale
A son inherits a piece of land, a family property in Turkey. It has been passed down from father to son for generations. He doesn’t want to sell it, but he doesn’t want to live there, either. He is torn between the life he knows in Amsterdam and his mother’s fervent wish to return to Turkey with him. Then he gets a visit from an unknown woman: his father’s inheritance turns out to be more than he had expected.

Europe Now
Europe Now is an intercultural European theatre network consisting of five producing venues from five European capitals: Riksteatern (Stockholm), Talimhane Tiyatrosu (Istanbul), Arcola Theatre (London), Ballhaus Naunynstrasse (Berlijn) and Theater RAST with Podium Mozaïek (Amsterdam). These five companies/venues set up a network in 2011 to tell the stories of a “new Europe”; stories which reflect the changing demographic structures, the multi-ethnicity and multicultural realities. With financial support from the EU Culture Programme they were able to jointly develop five new theatre plays to kickstart a dialogue on today’s Europe.
