World Premiere - Documentary "The Turkish Boat"

Date(s)

On Monday 4 March the World Premiere of the Documentary De Turkse Boot (The Turkish Boat) will take place in Paradiso, Amsterdam.

The documentary - The Turkish boat follows the participants of the Turkish boat that joined the Canal Parade for the first time during Gay Pride 2012. We join the Turkish-Dutch gay activists Döne and Serdar in their attempt to gain recognition and acceptance within the Turkish community while Amsterdam nightlife icons Joost van Bellen and Bas Kosters discuss what it means to be gay in the Netherlands in the 21st century.

In the days following Gay Pride a number of the participants reveal that they received several threats and hate mail after their appearance on the boat. Döne and Serdar unveil the delicateness of the matter of homosexuality within the Turkish community and show us that there are plenty of obstacles left to scale.

After the screening the filmmaker Chris Belloni and the two main characters will discuss in which way the Turkish boat has contributed to a better climate for Turkish homosexuals.

Filmmaker Chris Belloni made his debut in 2012 with the controversial
documentary "I Am Gay And Muslim". The film follows a number of young gay Moroccan men in their exploration of their religious and sexual identity. I Am Gay And Muslim_ has been screened at several international film festivals, including Sydney, Berlin, Istanbul and Sao Paolo.
