Amarte Fund: Visual arts - Project grant
The Amarte Foundation was founded in 2019 by a number of families that share a deep love for the arts. Together they decided to offer financial means to innovative artists and support projects in music, theatre, film, visual arts, and literature. Amarte would like to serve as a springboard for artists, which is why they offer both development grants and project grants to realize relatively small scale projects.
The Visual art Project grant is meant to support the realisation of new work of which the plan is already concrete and which contributes to the development of the artist. This may include travel abroad.
Amarte doensn’t only offer support with financial means, but also with expertise or coaching for the development of a project. If an application is granted, Amarte offers an extra sum on top of the financial grant for a collaboration with an expert.
- Professional in the field of visual arts, film, theatre, music, or literature, or a combination of these disciplines, based in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, who wants to take a new direction and could use a helping hand. Amarte particularly intends to be there for makers who are often deemed ineligible at other cultural funds;
- Cultural organisations can only submit an application in cooperation with and on the initiative of an artist/maker for the development of one artistic project.
- Lessons or courses can only be supported if these are embedded in the project;
- The creation of an art book can be supported, if it is a stand-alone art project;
- Fee and material costs can be supported;
- Projects developed autonomously by dependent curators can be supported. This means that these projects cannot be commissioned by an institution or organisation. The financial contributions are specifically aimed at fostering the creative process, deepening research, and strengthening the vision of the curator as an independent creator. The professional development of the curator and their curatorial practice is central to this support.
Amarte does not support:
- Residency costs that go directly to the residency organisation
- Publications listing previously created work
- Study projects and/or scholarships;
- Projects that are entirely educational in nature;
- Ongoing organisational costs and general investments;
- Dance projects or music videos, unless they are part of a multidiciplinary project.
A maximum of €5,500
Amarte offers grantees an extra sum on top of the financial grant for a collaboration with an expert.
- The project has a clear beginning and an end;
- The project is a the beginning stage of a creative process (projects that are already at an advanced stage therefore have less chance);
- The total budget does not exceed €50,000.
Applications will be reviewed by the advisory committee Visual arts. The most important factors they pay attention to are:
- Enthusiasm
- Authenticity
- Talent development
- A well thought out plan
Please note: Applicants cannot apply for multiple projects at the same time. If an application is still pending, it must be completed before submitting a new application. This also means that it is not possible to apply for both a development and a project grant for the same project. However, after completing a development project, one apply for a project contribution for that same project.
