Funding for visual artists with pre-school children

The Mondriaan Fund is one of the 6 national cultural funds, and supports and promotes the visual arts and cultural heritage in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The grant is exclusively intended for additional childcare and/or additional travel and accommodation costs for the care of the artist's child(ren) that arise as a direct result of a multi-day activity within a defined period, such as a residency period or construction phase of an exhibition in the Kimgdom of the Nethetlands or abroad.

Visual artists

  • who are artistically active and embedded in the professional visual arts practice in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom;
  • who have been working as a professional artist for at least one year and who are registered with the Chamber of Commerce; or
  • who have completed at least three years of a Higher Professional Education (HBO) art course and have worked as a professional artist for at least one year, or
  • who have worked as a professional artist for three years or longer.

Students are not eligible (e.g. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes, as well as postgraduate and postdoctoral programmes).

  • Applications during the term of any other financial support from the Mondriaan Fund will not be accepted in the case that the board is of the opinion that the contribution covers the same expenses;
  • The Artist with Child Voucher can be awarded a maximum of 3 times per 12 months;
  • Only for one-off, temporary and additional care/travel and/or accommodation costs for a child who is not yet of compulsory school age and for whom the applicant is responsible;
  • These costs arise as a result of a multi-day activity of a temporary nature, such as a residency period or construction phase of an exhibition;
  • This must be evident from a registration, commitment or invitation from the institution where the multi-day activity takes place and financial proof such as an agreement and invoice from the childcare agency or the babysitter.
