Scholarships for young artistic talents in the field of theater

The VandenEnde Foundation (VDEF) is a private cultural fund established in 2001 by Joop and Janine van den Ende. The VDEF contributes to strengthening the cultural climate in the Netherlands, with the aim of ensuring that young people grow up in a society where interest in art and culture is self-evident. The VDEF provides scholarships to young artistic talents in teh field of music, theater, dance and film & TV, to further their development. Since its establishment, over 750 young people have been able to study at prestigious institutions in the Netherlands ánd abroad with a scholarship from the VDEF.

Who can apply
Individuals

Young artistic talents in the Netherlands in the field of theater who wish to further their development. If an applicant is a minor at the time of application, the application must be made on their behalf by a parent or legal guardian of the applicant.

For what
Research
  • A full-time follow-up education at a renowned theater school abroad in the field of drama, mime, cabaret, musical theater (opera/musical), film, or television;
  • A short-term education, course, workshop, or masterclass abroad in the field of drama, mime, cabaret, musical theater (opera/musical), film, or television;
  • A series of private lessons with a specialist teacher.
How much

The applicant's own contribution is at least 10% of the total costs.

Requirements
  • The applicant holds Dutch nationality (or the nationality of another EU or EEA member state or Switzerland) and has been registered in the Netherlands for at least three years prior to the application;
  • The applicant is between 20 and 27 years old;
  • The applicant has followed a government-recognized relevant (pre)education for young talent and/or completed a recognized professional education at least at HBO level, and
  • the education for which the application is made does not start within a period of two months after the deadline.

    Limitations:
  • A theater scholarship is exclusively granted in the disciplines of acting or directing and not for training in other disciplines such as design or stagecraft, production, technical aspects, theater/drama teaching, etc.
  • Internships or exchanges during a theater education program are not eligible for a scholarship.
  • A contribution for attending a short-term (summer) course, workshop, or masterclass is granted for a maximum of three consecutive years.
  • Scholarships for education in the field of music theater (musical) are only granted for the following programs in the United Kingdom and the United States of America:
    - Central Saint Martins (Drama Centre London) (London, UK)
    - Royal Academy of Music (Musical Theatre) (London, UK)
    - Guildford School of Acting, Musical Theatre and Production (London, UK)
    - Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts (London, UK)
    - Arts Educational Schools (London, UK
    - Guildhall School of Music & Drama (London, UK)
    - The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music – Cincinati (Ohio, USA)
    - University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance Department of Musical Theatre – Ann Arbor (Michigan, USA)
    - Carnegie Mellon University, Purnell Center for the Arts, The School of Drama Acting and Music Theatre – Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, USA)
    - American Musical and Dramatic Academy (New York, USA)
    - American Academy of Dramatic Arts (New York and Los Angeles, USA)
