Heritage and fashion

The Botter house is located next to the Swedish consulate on the main shopping avenue Istiklal. The Botter house is the first Art Nouveau building in Istanbul and was built in 1901 by the Italian architect Raimondo D’Aronco. The building of the Botter house was commissioned by Sultan Abdül Hamit II for his favorite fashion designer: the Dutchman Jean Botter. Botter was also popular amongst the Ottoman aristocrats and foreigners in Istanbul, because he made haute couture inspired by fashions in London and Paris.
