Interdisciplinary education
In recent years there are positive improvements in cultural education, especially by the help of the new interdisciplinary departments opened at some of the universities. In 2005, the Kadir Has University in Istanbul has launched a postgraduate program under the name of Protection of Cultural Heritage. This department takes into account the multidisciplinary nature of conservation, accepts students from various disciplines and raises the concept of cultural heritage.
Another example of an interdisciplinary department is the one in Koç University. The master’s program titled Anatolian Civilizations and Cultural Heritage Management has as its primary goal to provide an in-depth education about the history of art and architecture, archaeological science, and cultural history of the lands which comprise present-day Turkey. The program introduces students to both the theoretical and practical aspects of museum operations and the management of cultural heritage resources.
