Iznik (Nicaea)
The small city of Iznik, lies exactly between Istanbul and Bursa when traveling over land. Iznik has a cultural heritage of 2400 years, is known worldwide for its ceramic tiles, which were the basic decorative elements of Seljuk and Ottoman architecture. Iznik-Kütahya-Eşkişehir is an area that is still important for ceramics today. İznik Çini Foundation can be compared to the Dutch ceramics firm Royal Tichelaar in Makkum. Apart from ceramics, Iznik seems not of much interest for cultural activities.
