Jacomine Hendrikse, Advisor Europe + Heritage

As Advisor Europe + Heritage, my job is to promote Dutch-European cooperation in the field of tangible and intangible heritage. I do so by offering information, building networks and funding international exchanges through travel grants and a support grant scheme. I strongly believe in the power of heritage to bring people together, to connect people with their past and to increase public awareness of the various challenges we are facing. Sustainability is a big theme for me personally, and in my work and activities, I hope to contribute to a sustainable, future-proof heritage sector.

I am a historian specialised in the role of culture and heritage in European nation-building in the long 19th century. Prior to working at DutchCulture, I worked as a fundraising and sponsorships officer at the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum.

Together with some other young heritage enthusiasts, I form the board of Erfgoed Jong, a Dutch nationwide network of people aged 16-30 who are interested in heritage. We organise events, exchange tips and tricks to start a career in the heritage field and we offer a platform for a fresh and young view on heritage. Organisations approach us when seeking a young speaker at an event, a young view on their project or a young expert to join the discussion.
