Barraco #55

Barraco #55 is a cultural centre in Complexo do Alemão (Rio de Janeiro) for exchange of art, culture and knowledge between foreign artists/tourists and local people/artists and collaborative production of arts.

Barraco #55′s mission is to exchange culture and knowledge, to map and integrate the local social agents, and to design, implement and facilitate social and cultural projects that contribute to the revitalization and improvement of the quality of life in community.

The centre believes that this form of tourism, based on the inclusion of the community through arts and culture, can help generate an alternative flow of tourism that can have a positive impact on the community. Through art, Barraco 55 aims to unite and exchange ways of thinking and expression and learn from each other.

By collaborating with young people from the community, especially women, the centre aims to create conditions conducive to the promotion of human development and socio-economic inclusion in the community.
