The Department of History, which offers degrees both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as opportunities for interested members of the wider community to attend courses as "Access" students, is among the largest at the University of Washington, with more than forty faculty members (six holding joint appointments with the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and one with the Department of American Indian Studies). History Department faculty have received the university's distinguished teaching award more times than those in any other unit on campus.
