Main trends

For over ten years, the main topic of discussion concerning the cultural heritage scene is the destruction of cultural heritage that is taking place all over Turkey. Rapid urbanization, migration to metropolitan areas, and a growing demand for energy are the main reasons why the cultural and environmental heritage is threatened. Dams, for example, show both the need for electricity, as well as a threat to many archaeological and environmental areas.

Another threat to cultural heritage in Turkey is the law. One law in particular, which is also mentioned below, ruined many urban areas in historical cities.
