Museums
Valuable calligraphic works and manuscripts of the past are exhibited in the Turkish Museum of Islamic Art, the Topkapi Palace and Sabanci Museum, but even though Turkey has its own unique history of graphic design, a design museum hasn’t been established yet. In many countries and cities, design history museums are opened and graphic design sections are added to the modern art museums of the city museums. For instance the Dutch Stedelijk Museum has a collection of 60.000 graphic design works. Currently Turkish museums do not display any graphic design, but there is at present a team at Mimar Sinan University’s Fine Arts Faculty working on building an archive of graphic design history. We are in need of a museum that young designers, writers, educators and researchers can benefit from.
