Central de Cultura program: Intensifying cultural relations
Brazil and the Netherlands can both look back at a long cultural, diplomatic and economic history. There is mutual respect between the countries despite the enormous differences in population, culture and size of the country. Because of the long-standing relationship between the two countries seven of the major Dutch culture Funds have launched a cultural program between Brazil and the Netherlands for the coming two years to intensify and extend cultural exchange and cultural cooperation: Central de Cultura: Intensiveringsprogramma Culturele Samenwerking NL-BR (intensifying cultural relations NL-BR). The objective is that this program will lead to a long-standing and more intensive cultural relationship between Brazil and the Netherlands in the future
The focus of the program is not on promotion but cultural exchange. A major objective is to strengthen the cultural relationship between the two countries. This has to lead to long-term and equal cooperation for cultural artists in the Netherlands as well as Brazil. From a Dutch point of view there is openness to be able to learn more from Brazil regarding cultural participation, social inclusion and cultural education.
Disciplines
The cultural program is a multi discipline program and is an initiative of different Dutch culture Funds. The funds that have committed to the program are the Performing Arts Fund NL; Mondriaan Foundation, Fund for Cultural Participation (Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie); The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (Fonds BKVB), the Filmfund (Filmfonds); The Dutch Foundation for Literature and The Netherlands Architecture Fund.
Themes
The program focuses on 5 themes: cultural participation, cultural diversity, sustainability and Beyond the Cliché. All projects that will be supported by the program will have to contain one of these themes.
Duration of the program
The intensive cultural program between Brazil and the Netherlands will run for two years ( 2011-2012). For 2011 the focus will be on the development and support of joint Brazilian activities in the Netherlands and in 2012 the focus shifts to co-productions in Brazil.
