Contemporary choreography festival ‘Context. Diana Vishneva’ showcases Dutch dance.
From 24 until 28 November the contemporary choreography festival ‘Context. Diana Vishneva’ takes place in Moscow. Founded by famous ballerina Diana Vishneva, principal dancer with the Mariinsky Theater and the American Ballet Theater, the festival is a unique and creative platform for talented young Russian choreographers and dancers with a focus on contemporary dance.
The festival is intended as a laboratory where Russian and international choreographers can show their creative writings and working methods to each other as well as to dancers, students and the general audience. Besides performances of Russian and international choreographers and dance companies, the programme consists of workshops, lectures and a film programme.
International perspective
Vishneva has founded the festival to offer Russian choreographers an opportunity to learn, grow, to show themselves and to get support from more experienced colleagues. By attracting dynamic international choreographers to Russia, Vishneva wants to offer young Russian dancers and choreographers a chance to learn from the best.
The festival has a strong tradition of showcasing Dutch dance companies and choreographers. In 2013 Korzo, Introdans and Codarts took part in the festival. In 2014 NDT2, Nanine Linning en Codarts Rotterdam participated. The festival of 2015 will be opened by the Dutch dance company Introdans, with a choreography of Hans van Manen. Introdans, Hans van Manen and the Dutch choreographer David Middendorp also give workshops during the festival. Since its foundation in 2013, the festival has been curated by Samuel Wuersten, who works as artistic director at the Holland Dance Festival and the Rotterdamse Dansacademie. The festival of 2015 is supported by the Performing Art Fund of the Netherlands.
