Dutch artists bring 'Monument to Humanity' to Istanbul
Dutch artists Wouter Osterholt and Elke Uitentuis created an alternative for the removed sculpture of Mehmet Aksoy in Kars. From July 4 - 14 the artists have organised a mobile workshop around the streets of different areas in İstanbul. Inspired on the demolishment of the 'Monument to Humanity' in Kars, they wheeled around a copy of Mehmet Aksoy's hand of friendship on a junk-cart and collected the 3D signatures of passers by. These plaster hand prints functioned as the building blocks for a new monument to humanity. The 'Helping Hands' are just brought to Kars and the result of the project will be exhibited later at PiST/// Interdisciplinary Project Space Istanbul with a publication and a discussion on the whole experience.
