DutchCulture | Buitengaats/Offshore Annual Overview 2013 is published

The most popular destinations for Dutch artists in 2013 were London, New York, Berlin, Paris, Moscow and Tokyo.

Every year, DutchCulture publishes the Buitengaats/Offshore Annual Overview: a map and a series of infographics showing the international cultural activities of Dutch artists and organisations.

This year, the publication also includes a contribution from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frans Timmermans, who alongside Minister Bussemaker, is responsible for international cultural policy for the Netherlands. Timmermans underlines the importance of international cultural exchange: “In a world where borders are disappearing, we need art and culture to define ourselves, to connect with others, to accentuate our similarities and to find new paths (…). International cultural policy and cultural diplomacy is about taking notice – and being noticed.”

The Buitengaats/Offshore Annual Overview was designed by Niels Schrader of Mind Design. In addition to the map and the essay, the overview also includes inforgraphics to show how many events have taken place in each country and each city, the top three travelling artists, and the cultural institutions divided by disciplines. The information is collected using the DutchCulture Buitengaats database, which has its 15th anniversary this year.
