Seoul meets Rotterdam with music and architecture

This week, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra is visiting South Korea. On Sunday 4 June, a grand concert is scheduled at Seoul Arts Center in the capital city. Another highlight of the visit is two 30 minute pop-up concerts presented by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra's trombone ensemble at the newly-launced Seoullo7017, a pedestrianised viaduct transformed into a sky garden in the city centre of Seoul.

Notably, the Seoullo7017 is designed by the also Rotterdam-based international architecture firm MVRDV. Seoullo7017 symbolizes the next step of the municipality of Seoul towards making the city centre greener, friendlier and more attractive, whilst connecting all patches of green in the wider area. 

The trombone ensemble of Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra's consists of three musicians; Pierre Volders, Alexander Verbeek, and Remko de Jager. The first pop-up concert takes place at 18.00 on Friday 2 June, and the second one takes place at 12.00 on Sunday 4 June. The Dutch Embassy in Seoul organizes the pop-up concerts in cooperation with the orchestra. With the dynamic and lively music of the trombone ensemble playing at the sky garden, the Embassy invites Seoul's public to experience The Netherlands and Rotterdam at the city's new hot spot.
