The answer of Stichting Trafik to the question ‘Why Istanbul?’ is that they want to fill in the space in the cultural supply from Turkey in Rotterdam and Holland with presentations of contemporary Turkish art and culture, as well as the other way around. Especially architecture is a topic where not many activities are taking place. But especially for this topic (including typical Dutch city building, town-planning, and the construction of public housing) there is a lot of interest from Turkey. On the other hand there is also interest in Holland for ‘Mediterranean building’.
