long description

A contribution towards a creative festival in the old town of Jakarta. Kota Tua Creative Festival is a free public event that invites Jakarta citizens and visitors to explore the potential of the unique open public spaces and abandoned heritage buildings in the treasured yet often forgotten part of Jakarta.

The festival is inspired by the centuries old urban form and the dynamic social spaces that take place there today, in light of the renewed spirit in the revitalization of Kota Tua. What are the different ways to reoccupy heritage buildings with contemporary uses without losing its historical memories? How can the coexistence of diverse users be preserved and let flourish?

The festival program – music, art, design, and culture – focuses on creative fields as an essential force in the revitalization of Kota Tua, and comes from the belief that love for the city, thus excitement in being a part of its evolution, comes from engaging and fostering citizen’s daily lives (not tourists alone) with the urban spaces in the city.
