Publications and blogs
Newspapers and magazines are more intent on publishing about fashion, architecture and industrial design. As these disciplines are more product-oriented, there is more advertisement and PR income. Graphic design is another story, an interim discipline if you like. The term ‘design’ is customarily used to describe product design. It is therefore very rare for graphic design related news to be featured in the national media.
The first Turkish graphic design periodical “Graphic Arts” was published 13 times between 1987 and 1990. It closed down for lack of advertising revenues. The monthly periodical “Graphic Design” began its life in 2006 and reached 35 volumes. Perodicals such as AD, Arradamento, XXI, Sanat Dünyamız, Gösteri, Milliyet Sanat and Vizyon that focus on architecture, arts, design and decoration, have at times featured news and interviews about graphic design.
The Turkish Society of Graphic Design publishes a 4 page periodical titled “WRITINGS on Graphic Design” which heavily relies on translated texts.
