Unfortunately the music press has taken some strong blows in the past couple of years. Established music magazines such as Walkman, Rolling Stone, Roll, and most recently Billboard were all shut down. Unfortunately music magazines were catered towards teenagers. They were giving out promotional materials such as stickers, and this did not hold well for people who are looking for more serious music news. Since teenagers do not have buying power, magazines were having difficulty in finding companies that would advertise. They also did not have good internet websites that would keep their readers interested in them daily. All of these factors as well as other ones not mentioned here contributed to their demise. Although there are some more magazines that publish monthly such as Bant (very indie rock oriented) and Blue Jean (teenager audience), the livelihood of the sector is long gone.
