Soldier of Orange takes the stage for orchestras in the Netherlands
To support the protests against the radical cuts in the Dutch culture budget, a remarkable action has been launched by Gijs Kramer, artistic director of the Ricciotti ensemble in Amsterdam.
Kramer has called upon orchestras world wide to play and record on film a one minute passage from the film score of Soldier of Orange, a 1977 film by Paul Verhoeven about the Dutch resistance in the Second World War.
The first contribution came from the Philharmonia Orchestra in London under conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen. Among the other orchestras that have participated so far are WDR Cologne, The London Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Aachen Symphony Orchestra.
