South Eastern Anatolian Region

South Eastern Anatolian Region

In the South-East not all cities are open to cultural projects and the projects should be more social. People see theater as live TV series, and a very successful tactic is to include Turkish actors known from TV. The South-East audiences are interested in political issues so they like Kafka, Jeunet (one director had an idea to make a Shakespeare play in Kurdish which was supported by the Swedish Consulate but in the end was prohibited). The South-East audiences like to discuss and talk after the performance, resulting in very nice discussions and direct reactions. The state theater of Van is good to work with. The South East has 9 provinces.
