Street theater

One of the main reasons why Street Theatre in Turkey have not developed much is because any kind of performance in the street has been banned or considered as political protest and so has been regarded with doubt by the government and the police. It is especially hard to get permits to do performances on the streets in main cities. However again old traditional performing arts of the Ottoman Empire; orta oyunu (play in the middle) have always been performed on the street especially. In the same line performative styles emerged in the villages always include the street and the public. There are groups who are inspired by such traditions and also ironically others who do this kind of theatre because of political reasons.
