Television and radio

With the establishment of private TV stations in mid-90s, a few TV stations dedicated to music also came into being. The Turkish-founded ones include Number 1 TV and Dream TV (both Turkish and foreign music), Kral TV and Powerturk (both totally dedicated to Turkish music). MTV Turkey also came into the industry in September 2006, but due to unclear legal struggles and license restrictions from the headquarters, it may be soon ruled that the station is airing illegally in Turkey.

Açık Radyo is a radio station that is solely based on donations of its listeners. This is a common practice abroad but it is unique for Turkey. Their programming includes all genres of music. Açık means “open” and their slogan is “open to all vibrations of the universe”.
