Transport

Transport

Transporting art requires specialised expertise. The period during which the works remain outside the ideal storage environment must be kept to a minimum. In addition, the packing and means of transport chosen are extremely important, of course.

The pros and cons of various types of transport (source: Kunstenloket):

  • road transport: door-to-door possible for all destinations, adjusted handling, precise timing, but very expensive if combinations are not possible;
  • air transport: inter-continental in 1-3 days, fixed cost, precise timing, but always in combination with road transport;
  • ship and rail transport: inexpensive, large volumes, but difficult to plan, extremely variable conditions sometimes, containers mandatory.

You can also transport the objects yourself. In that instance, you will have to take care of all the formalities. If large volumes are involved or destinations which are difficult or impossible to reach with your own transport, you may consider engaging a professional carrier.
