Universities

There are nearly 95 universities in Turkey, 51 of which are state universities whereas the remaining ones belong to foundations. Education about the topic of restoration first started at the faculty of architecture at the Istanbul Technical University on a postgraduate level. Today the Middle East Technical University, the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, the Yıldız Technical University, the Dokuz Eylül University, and the Gazi University also educate experts in order to be able to carry out restoration works. In addition, in Edirne, Çanakkale, Balıkesir and Zonguldak-Safranbolu there are vocational schools for higher education that offer two year education aimed at training intermediate staff, as well as a restoration chair in the process of establishment carrying out studies on department level.
