Badi Assad - Brazilian one-woman show

Forget everything you thought you knew about Brazilian music. Guitarist and singer Badi Assad, who grew up in Rio de Janeiro, is in a league of her own. The music on her recent CD, Amor e Outras Manias Crônicas, is the exact opposite of the restrained seduction of the bossa nova. Her voice, which can shoot flames at a whim, is as passionate as her exceptional skill on the guitar. At a very young age she was acclaimed best Brazilian guitarist, and after a classical education she developed into a versatile singer-songwriter. She experiments with vocal techniques such as beat box, and she produces complex rhythms with her lips, tongue, and mouth. Her solo concerts are described as a revelational and brilliant combination of innovation, imagination, and virtuosity.
