Bienal de São Paulo

Date(s)
-

The title of the 31st Bienal de São Paulo, "How to Talk About Things That Don't Exist", is a poetic invocation of art's capacities, of its ability to reflect and act upon on life, power and belief. The sentence communicates optimism about the possibilities of art today – an optimism that echoes that of the Bienal and the projects within it.

The 31st Bienal de São Paulo is curated by a team of 5: Charles Esche, Pablo Lafuente, Nuria Enguita Mayo, Galit Eilat and Oren Sagiv with the two associated curators Benjamin Seroussi e Luiza Proença. The group will also be responsible for the 31st Bienal de São Paulo traveling exhibitions in 2015 as well as maintaining the current partnership between Fundação Bienal and the Ministry of Foreign Relations for Brazil's official participation in the Biennale di Venezia.

The Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, headquarters of the Bienal de São Paulo Foundation since 1957, is the stage of one of the world's most important art exhibitions: the Bienal de São Paulo. Designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, the pavilion is a heritage-listed building (compresp, condephaat and iphan) under trust to the Bienal Foundation through a loan-for-use agreement with City Hall.

The exhibition part of the Bienal will contain more than 81 projects, produced by about 100 participants and totalling around 250 artworks.
