The architectural style of Paliam Palace is a hybrid of Kerala and Dutch styles. 'Paliathachan' is the title given to the Karanavar (Head of the Family) of Paliam Noble Family. During the 17th and 18th centuries, they held the posts of Prime Minister and Chief of Army of the kingdom of Kochi.

Culture Talk: The Muziris Heritage Project

Presenting you the ancient port of Muziris and India's largest ever heritage conservation project

We are proud to welcome a delegation of five museum and heritage specialists from Kerala, India, for the last visitors programme of the year. Not many places in the world can boast the historic and cultural diversity of Kerala, located on India's southwestern coast. The traces of Roman, Persian, Arab, Jewish, Chinese, Portuguese, British and Dutch influence reveal a century-old crucial position along the Spice route. The government of Kerala has launched the Muziris Heritage Project to revitalize the historic and cultural significance of this ancient port. The region hosts an incredible amount of monuments from a bygone era that conjure up a vast and vivid past. The entire project will involve at least 40 separate sites and aims to integrate the local community in all intended developmental initiatives. The following heritage experts will share their insights:

Michael Tharakan, Chairman of the Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR), Mr. Rubin Dcruz, advisor to the Muziris Heritage Project, Mr. Kesavan Veluthat, Institute for Studies in the Heritage of Coastal Kerala.
