International visitor: Tom Ruller (USA)
Mr Tom Ruller has over 30 years of working experience with cultural heritage organizations throughout New York State. Prior to his current position, Mr Ruller served as Director of Operations for the Office of Cultural Education.
The objectives of Mr Ruller's visit are meeting several potential partners and fellor archives, getting acquainted with the Netherlands of the 17th century and further develop presentation possibilities for the New York State Archives.
Mr Ruller will visit, among others, the Amsterdam City Archives, the National Maritime Museum, and Stichting Bevordering Maatschappelijke Participatie ('Foundation for Promotion of Social Participation) in Amsterdam, the Centre for Global Heritage and Development in Leiden and the National Archives of the Netherlands in The Hague.
On Friday 23 June, from 15:00 to 16:30 hrs, Mr Ruller will give a visitors talk at the DutchCulture offices. He will discuss the mission of the New York State Archives, the challenges met in preservering and presenting the colonial government records of the colony of New Netherland to the public, and the Archives' vision and possibilities of future cooperation with Dutch partners.
