On the 11th of  December, His Highness Prince Maurits opened,  in the company of Her Highness Princess Marilène of Oranje-Nassau van Vollenhoven,  the exhibition of the painting ‘Woman in Blue reading a Letter ‘ by Johannes Vermeer in São Paulo, one of the top pieces from the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The painting is currently on a world tour (China Art Museum, J. Paul Getty Museum LA, Museu de Arte São Paulo) prior to the reopening of the Rijksmuseum on April 13 2013, after 10 years of renovation.

From the small oeuvre (35 paintings) by Johannes Vermeer that is left, the Rijksmuseum owns four works. Everyday scenes were Vermeer specialty, he was one of the great masters of light. This ‘Woman in Blue reading a Letter’

from around 1663, is considered one of his finest paintings.

In São Paulo the painting is shown at the Museu de Arte. This museum is internationally known for its collection of European art. It owns and presents at the same time a rich collection of Brazilian, African and Asian art.

The exhibition can be visited until the 11th of February 2013.
