Exchanges with the Netherlands

The Beijing International Jazz Festival has attracted practically all big jazz names from the Netherlands and other parts of the world. Han Bennink, Michiel Borstlap, Yuri Honing, Guus Janssen are just a few of the names who came to China to perform and educate Chinese audiences. In addition, the Willem Breuker Kollektief, jazz vocalist Laura Fygi (who regularly tours East Asia), and jazz trumpet player Saskia Laroo have been performing regularly in China. In November 2008, the Calafax Reed Quartet toured China as part of the Far East Revisited Tour with the Tony Overwater Trio, and in late- 11 -Many 2009, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw (JOC) performed in Beijing as part of the Beijing May Festival. Wu Promotions in collaboration with the Netherlands Music Center (formerly Dutch Jazz Connection) has organized university tours for Dutch and other international jazz bands.
