Financial situation

The moving space is vast and full of possibilities although the basic foundations for it are still very weak in Turkey. The dance scene is still relatively small and confined mostly to Istanbul. There is no support whatsoever from local authorities and, with a few exceptions, private sponsorship does not exist in the dance field. The Turkish Ministry of Culture does not give financial support to contemporary/modern dance field apart from the support to festivals in general and certain events realized in foreign countries (just to give a brief idea, the Ministry does support theatre companies apart from State Theater Companies: the overall financial support budget for 111 theatre projects realized by private theatre companies was two million five hundred Turkish Liras in the 2008-2009 season).
