Jazz

We have previously mentioned Western pop music and jazz making its first imprint in Shanghai in the 1920s. Jazz venues today in Shanghai include The Niche Bar, House of Blues and Jazz, JZ Club, Cotton Club, and CJW (Xintiandi). Jazz venues are not as conspicuous in Beijing and Guangzhou. The CD Café and East Shore at Houhai in Beijing, for example, are popular venues for Chinese and foreign jazz musicians. In Guangzhou, jazz venues are even less conspicuous. The once opened Blue Note and Backstreet Jazz Bar have closed down.
