Within NHTV’s theme of tourism, there are several lectureships involved with heritage. Most notably, within the lectureship of visitor studies the relationship between these two fields, tourism and heritage, is considered one of the two main fields of study (next to the relationship between tourism and coastal areas). This approach raises questions concerning in what way visitor streams affect destinations such as heritage sites, both in an intended and in an unintended way, and how these streams can be managed to influence the desired outcome of their behaviour.
