Adriaan Rees to give a lecture at CAFA
On 18 April Tamara Oosterlaar (manager Vario Mundo) and visual artist Adriaan Rees (representative of Werkgroep Kunstopdrachten Vathorst) are invited by Chinese artist Sui Jianguo to hold a lecture for students at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Using the construction of Vathorst (a new district in Amersfoort with 30.000 inhabitants) as an example, Oosterlaar and Rees will illustrate how art in public space can increase the quality of life for new inhabitants and how it helps them to feel more connected to their new living environment.
Vario Mundo is the foundation for arts and culture in Vathorst, a new district in the small Dutch town of Amersfoort(180.000 inhabitants). During the construction of Vathorst, Vario Mundo implements a so-called Cultural Strategy on behalf of the local community. Arts in public spaces are the core of this Cultural Strategy and at this moment, Vario Mundo has arrived at the last phase of its realization. The emphasis is on impressive, high profile artworks. For the creation of a large outdoor sculpture in ‘De Bron’, the heart of Vathorst, Vario Mundo and the community of Amersfoort have reached out to the famous visual artist Sui Jianguo. He is also professor at the Department of Sculpture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
