BBC Documentary on Brazilian Music

BBC Documentary on Brazilian Music

Do you need a quick but in-depth overview of Brazilian rhythms and their main representatives? The BBC made a great documentary with a sample of all the basics, from the early days of samba, in the slave quarters of plantations, to the globalization of Bossa Nova and beyond. Produced four years ago,  the three-part, three-hour series “Brasil, Brasil” can be watched on Youtube. Yes, it has cliches, it is pretty mainstream and pays tribute to the obvious suspects (João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Carmem Miranda) – but it is an accomplished and pleasant introduction to the topic, with great interviews and rare historic footage.
