Brazilian Creative Economy is Growing
Exports of goods and services related to the creative economy in Brazil has increased from \$ 2.4 billion in 2002 to \$ 7.5 billion in 2008. The volume, however, is still lower than in other countries such as China, which in 2008 exported \$ 84 billion in goods and services segment.
This was one of the conclusions of the Creative Economy Report 2010 of the United Nations, presented on 7 November 2011 in Rio de Janeiro. The document, which provides information on activities related to the creative economy between 2002 and 2008, was released in April in London and New York.
The head of the Creative Economy Programme of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Edna dos Santos-Duisenberg, stressed that despite the growth, Brazil is not yet among the 20 largest producers in the industry, led by China, the United States and Germany.
In order to improve the creative economy in the city of Rio de Janeiro the local government implented two incubators, which will offer services and qualification structure for 21 projects in different sectors. The incubators will be located in the harbor area (Zona Portuaria) and in São João de Meriti, in the North Zone (Baixada). The incubators will be inaugurated in February (2012).
