Impakt and LabMis Artist in Residence project

For the the second time around, Impakt collaborated with LabMIS in organizing a two-way residency exchange.
LabMIS, the residency program of the Museum for Image and Sound in São Paulo, Brazil, will provide for Dutch artists to work at their premises, while Impakt welcomes a Brazilian artist in Utrecht.
This summer, Gabriel Menotti is invited to be Impakt’s resident artist for a month from 18 August till 18 September 2012.
At the other side of the globe, Dutch artist Manon Bovenkerk will be the artist in residence at LabMIS in São Paulo in September and October.

Gabriel Menotti is an independent curator engaged with different forms of cinema. He has organised pirate screenings, remix film festivals, videogame championships, porn screenplay workshops, installations with film projectors, generative art exhibitions and academic seminars, among other things. His works and research results have been presented in events such as ISEA, the São Paulo Biennial and Transmediale. Menotti also holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London, and another from the Catholic University of São Paulo. At the present time he is a visiting tutor at Goldsmiths, University of London and Middlesex University.

Project Description:

Æther Addresses investigates the silent machine dialogues buried under contemporary urban ecosystems. A dedicated mobile application is used to produce partial catalogues of the wireless networks in Utrecht. With this procedure, one hopes to expose industrial standards, ethnic marks and spontaneous forms of poetry.
