New Dutch ambassador appointed to the Russian Federation

On 18 December the Dutch government approved the 22 ambassadorial appointments proposed by foreign minister Bert Koenders, including the current Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Renée Jones-Bos as ambassador to the Russian Federation. The new ambassadors are expected to take office in the summer of 2016, after the Dutch Presidency of the EU.  

Jones-Bos has a long and successful career within the foreign ministry. During her career she was posted in Moscow (Agricultural Attaché, 1979-1980), Dhaka (Third Embassy Secretary, 1982-1984), Paramaribo (Second Embassy Secretary, 1984-1987), Washington (First Embassy Secretary, 1987-1990) and Prague (Chief of Staff, 1994-1998). In 2000 Jones-Bos was appointed ambassador for Human Rights for the foreign ministry. From 2008 to 2012 she was stationed in Washington as ambassador to the United States. With her appointment as Secretary General in 2012, Jones-Bos became the highest official within the ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague.

Jones-Bos succeeds the current ambassador Ron van Dartel, who is appointed ambassador to Warsaw, Poland. Jones-Bos will be succeeded as Secretary General by Yoka Brandt, currently Deputy Executive Director at Oxfam in New York.
