The New Institute Call workshop Made by Us

Made by Us

Creative professionals and urbanists are invited to take part in the workshop Made by Us, which will explore how new media can be used to involve citizens in the repurposing of industrial sites. On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September, during Beijing Design Week 2013, participants from various professional and national backgrounds will work with stakeholders to find ways to engage the public in the old Capital Steel Factory’s transformation into a creative industry park.

The group will visit the Capital Steel Factory to meet stakeholders and hear an inspiring talk at the China Millennium Monument Museum of Digital Arts (CMoDA). Then, they’ll perform research and analysis, move on to ideation and concept formation, and finally, create a prototype product, service and/or methodology.

The workshop is part of the Made By Us project, in which Dutch and Chinese creatives will develop a participatory approach to postindustrial heritage planning using digital technologies. Made by Us is a project of The New Institute and The Mobile City of the Netherlands in partnership with Chinese organisations including the CMoDA.

Application: workshop@themobilecity.nl (deadline: Wednesday 4 September, 11pm CET)
