New phase for Dutch Design Desk GPRD
Starting on 1 May 2012, the Dutch Design Desk for the Greater Pearl River Delta will enter a new phase in its existence. The initial management team of Vanessa de Groot and Teun Hompe will return to the Netherlands after a successful year establishing the Desk. For the next phase of consolidating the Dutch Design Desk GPRD, the DutchDFA is looking to recruit a successor in collaboration with the Consulates General in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
The Dutch Design Desk for the Greater Pearl River Delta (GPRD) was set up within the framework of the four-year strategic programme entitled Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (DutchDFA). The Desk offers local support to Dutch creative entrepreneurs in that region of China. To that end, the Dutch Design Desk GPRD works closely with the Consulates General in Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and with the Dutch professional organisations like the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO) and the MODINT trade association.
After some exciting and educational years in China, Vanessa de Groot and Teun Hompe have decided to return to live and work in the Netherlands. They have spent an enjoyable and successful past year establishing the Dutch Design Desk GPRD. Under their leadership the Desk developed into an important support for Dutch creative professionals in the fields of design, fashion and architecture who are attempting to break into the Chinese market in the triangle formed by Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, an area known as the Greater Pearl River Delta.
The Desk has supported designers in taking their first steps in this challenging environment, with local marketing and promotion, customer relations, and practical advice tailored to needs. In addition, the Desk has accompanied trade delegations to local events such as Canton Fair, Guangzhou Design Week and the Hong Kong Business of Design Week. The project will continue with support from the DutchDFA and the Consulates General in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The recruitment of a successor will start soon.
